Promoting the Political Empowerment of Youth with Disabilities in the Dominican Republic
On December 13, 27 Dominican youth with disabilities celebrated completing the Engaging a New Generation for Accessible Governance and Elections course at the Iberoamerican University (UNIBE) in Santo Domingo. The eight-week course on leadership and political processes was developed through collaboration between IFES, UNIBE and the Disability Alliance for Our Rights as part of the United States Agency for International Development-funded project, “Political Leadership of Youth with Disabilities in the Dominican Republic.”

Ending Impunity for Violence Against Women in Elections in Zimbabwe
Earlier this year, IFES research in Zimbabwe found that women engaging in elections as candidates, voters and journalists were experiencing devastating sexual extortion, physical violence, harassment and intimidation from their bosses, colleagues, religious leaders and domestic partners, both in physical and online forms. In response, IFES and local Zimbabwean partners launched an initiative to end impunity for violence against women in elections.

Partnership with Libyan Ministry of Education to Promote Civic Education in Public Schools
On August 4, 2018, IFES and the Libyan Ministry of Education (MoE) celebrated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at underpinning future cooperation in Libya. The MoU is the latest culmination of a fruitful cooperation between IFES and the MoE toward developing and introducing a broad curriculum of civic education in public schools in Libya.

United Nations General Assembly to Be Briefed on Violence Against Women in Politics
On October 5th, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women will brief the General Assembly on violence against women in politics and release a dedicated report, which specifically details the work of IFES on “VAWE-Online,” a globally adaptable tool to measure violence against women in elections on social media.
